High Quality Teachers - Our instructors receive over 40 hours of training before they are allowed to take their first class.  Our first requirement is that they love children and enjoy being around children.  They are chosen on their willingness to be there for your child each and every week.  They are also chosen because they communicate well with children, whether through songs, games, stories, a strong nudge when needed or a gentle hug.  All of our teachers are CPR certified and have a love of the water.

Warm Water - Our pools are kept at a tropical 90 degrees.  The air on the pool deck is also warm.  There are no blue-lipped shivering children waiting for their turns at Little Otter.  Children that are comfortable are able to focus on learning to swim.  Our facility is only used to teach swimming. Other facilities are kept cooler to facilitate lap swimming and water aerobics.  A warm child is a happy child and that is a child that will learn quicker.

Small Class Sizes - Most of our classes are taught at a 4 student to 1 instructor ratio.  The exceptions are Litte Otter classes which are 2 to 1 and Otter Baby classes which are taught at a 6 to 1 ratio and our spring swim team which are taught in a squad setting.  Private and semi-private lessons are also available for if you child responds better to this teaching style.

Laughter - We believe that it is important and healthy to laugh everyday.  Our teachers provide laughter, jokes, magic carpet rides, pirate ships, super heroes and a loving environment that let children stretch their limits and learn new things. We embrace that children learn through play.

Purpose Built Facility - You can tell as you walk in the door that Little Otter is a place for children.  This creates an atmosphere where children know that they are in a place for them.  This comes through in the colors we chose, the open viewing environment and the warm greeting as you come in.  Our pools are built with stairs for little swimmers, benches, islands and a maximum depth of 4 feet.  Organized classes  provide the correct space to maintain safety while challenging swimmers.  Students learn in a focused, safe, consistent and child-friendly  aquatic envoronment.

Developmently Appropiate - Our program is based on priciples of early childhood education. Our teachers understand the importance of respecting the social, emotional, physical and cognative development of young children.
